Snow Word

This is one of my fav games ever. I discovered it when I was around 10!! It is a game that dives deep into the mind of a girl whose past and traumas you discover through her dreams.

I felt understood by this game, it was a picture of what I imagined my mind during my childhood looked like. The endless and trippy mazes, the eerie aura, the soundtrack... It was all a combination of what I felt at the time. I understood Madotsuki and Madotsuki understood me. It was one of the first RPGs indie games to depict depression and trauma in an artistic and mysterious way, it paved the way for games like OMORI! And I will always be grateful for appearing in my life, it helped me through a lot. So this is why I decided to make this shrine, because I would love to show the world what this game means to me.

The Worlds

Throughout the game we encounter lots of different spaces and worlds, each of them with a meaning. They all have an eerie aura that I LOVE! and do an amazing job at describing Madotsuki's nightmares and dreams.

Here's a few of the places that I personally love in this game and why!

Number World
I remember that Number World was one of the first places I visited when I got the game. It is a maze full of numbers and funny walls, where you occasionally find doors that lead you to different rooms.

I personally LOVE the bedroom place, it is a place full of bedrooms and closets where you can also find a Toriningen. It makes it feel like some of the creatures that we find in the Number World look for shelter in places like this.

White Desert
The White Desert is one if the most popular areas in the game, even if you haven't played Yume Nikki, you may have heard of it.

It is kinda difficult to access but it's full of cool events and characters and I love the design of the place. It made me very excited accessing the White Desert when I was a kid, it felt calm and since it's a fully white space, it was a nice contrast to the darkness of the other places in the game.

Traincar
Oh how I LOVE this place. The outside of the Traincar it's just so cool! The lightning of the scene and the design of the traincar create such an eerie ambience that I enjoy a lot. It is an aesthetic I pursue when I think about designing games.

The inside of the train is also amazing. It does an amazing job at representing the lonelines of the place. The passenger standing quietly next to you, the dark sky that you see through the windows... Just amazing!

Sky Garden
The way this place makes me feel is just very hard to put in words. I love it, I simply love it so much. It is so calm and liminal and I really like the fact that you can hear background voices fusing with the music, saying something unintelligible.

This is one of the hardests places to access, but it is truly worth it. The people looking at the night sky, the background, that eerie feeling that is also kind of comforting. I love it. One of my favorite details is how the people runs away from you when you pick up the knife, I feel like this is one of the few places in the game where the NPCs feel like actual humans with fears and feelings.

Mars
I just really like how weird this place feels. It is completely different from the rest of the areas in the game. Especially after experiencing the Mars event with Masada, it is such a weird sequence of events that I love so much.

Even if it's not what it's actually happening, this place feels like finishing the game. The cutscene and the feeling you get when you step out of the spaceship to see a realistic Mars, it is so liminal and eerie and weird and I really really like it.
